POST-PRODUCTION

AS DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY

During the post production stage is where I was least involved, however I did have the role of sitting with the editor and doing the colour grade.

The look and style I wanted to achieve was a complementary palette of blues and oranges because throughout my research into colour grading it kept coming up as a very popular palette and is used by the film industry professionals therefore I felt this would suit our film well.

I sat with the editor and we went through shot by shot playing with the cool and light tones of each shot, after some feedback from Simon it was important to me that all of the shots matched and that they flowed seamlessly into one another.

Our first grading session went very well and we had a grade on every single shot, however after having a think about it overnight I felt that the grade was slightly too blue because the style were aiming for is more soft and I felt the cool tones didn't match that vision. Therefore in the next session we adjusted the temperature on the clips and warmed them all up which worked much better for what I had envisioned.

Overall I'm thoroughly happy with the colour grade and I think it elevates the film and sets the style and tone that we were trying to achieve.
