THE DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY STATEMENT

The director of photography (DoP) has one of the most creative roles during film production, their job is to give the final film it's own unique visual style or look.

I will achieve the desired look using lighting, framing, camera movements etc.

During pre-production I will be working on things like lighting plans, camera plans etc. I will conduct research and prepare and carry out technical recces of locations. Then prepare a list of all required camera equipment, including lights, camera and all accessories etc. During preparation I will also test lenses, filters and check that the results fit with the Director's vision for the film.

As this is a smaller production I will operate the camera during production, whilst overseeing the lighting and will work closely with the director to make sure their vision is being correctly portrayed. At the end of the shoot day myself and the Director will sit and watch all the rushes to make sure that all of the shots are correct and check that there is enough coverage for the edit.

In post production I will come into the edit once the clips have been put into place and all of the sound and visual structure is finished, then sit with the editor during the colour grading and work with them and the director to achieve the desired visual style/look.
